Top 11 items of 2011

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! :) I hope everyone had a great one!

A new year, a new blog. :) My old account was giving me so much trouble, I finally got fed up and decided to set up a new one. I've decided to make my blog more about fashion (ironically the first post is about makeup, of course) and show you some of my outfits and my favourite pieces in my wardrobe. That's what's coming up! :)

But today I wanted to talk about my favourite makeup, hair and perfume items that I discovered in 2011. Because I'm me, I of course forgot to include nail polish, but if anyone wants to know, my favourite nailpolishes of 2011 are Orly's Fancy Fuchsia, Orly's Pure Porcelain and OPI's Mod About You. Now let's get started!

I got quite a few things from MAC this year, and these were my favourites.

First up is Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle. This is a beautiful highlighter in a soft bronze colour with peachy undertones. It's soooooo pretty! I love the sheen it gives to my face. I apply it on the top of my cheekbones and on my browbone.

Next we have MAC's Mineralize Skinfinish Natural, which as you can see, I have completely used up. This is hands down the BEST pressed powder I've ever tried, I'm completely amazed by it. Applied alone or over liquid foundation, it gives a beautiful flawless finish.

And now for my hair favourites.

John Frieda's Luxurious Volume Mousse has been my companion for the better part of the year, until I finally layed off it in the past two months, because I missed my natural soft hair. However, this is still an amazing product that I would recommend to anyone. It gives such amazing volume to my hair and makes it stay in place all day, amazing!

The Compact Tangle Teezer is the best invention of mankind, seriously. I got this in the summer and have used it every single day since then. I have really long hair that tends to get terrible knots in it, and this got rid of all of them without hurting me. It's also perfect to carry around in your bag and fits perfectly in the palm of my hand.

For mascara, I can't rave enough about Maybelline's The Falsies. AMAZING!! I have naturally long eyelashes, but they're very fair, and this gives them the black colour and fullnes I want. I have been asked sooooo many times if I'm wearing false lashes, I've stopped counting. And all the thanks goes to this baby <3

Another product I got in the summer is Benefit's Eye Bright. When I was younger, I always used to wear black eyeliner on my waterline - trust me, NOT  a good look for me. Because I have small eyes, they looked even smaller with black eyeliner on. That's why I decided to try a lighter colour and this shade is absolutely perfect. It makes my eyes look so wide and pretty, I've been using it almost every day.

My absolute favourite product that I discovered in 2011 would have to be Skin 79's BB Cream. Amazing. No, but seriously, A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. It costs around 10€ and I get it on Ebay, it takes about 3 weeks to arrive which is a nightmare, there's only one shade so it wouldn't suit darker skin. That's the bad stuff, now can I tell you how great this is? It has SPF, which is why it's perfect for summer, it's like a tinted moisturizer but with better coverage and it gives a really beautiful dewy finish (if you don't like that, just use MAC's Mineralize Skinfinish Natural over it and you're set). Seriously great product, and I think everyone should try it.

For lips, I've been faithful to my Dior Addict lipstick. This line is sooooo good, the lipsticks are very moisturizing and there are some great shades. I also love the gorgeous packaging. If you don't want to shell out the money for it (and I do admit, it's quite expensive), a great dupe are the Revlon Lip Butters (which I'm still trying to get my hands on, so jealous of all you USA people).

My favourite blush this year has been MAC's Well Dressed. It's the most perfect blush for any occasion, a pretty baby pink with silver specks. It gives the perfect rosy glow. Definitely a must have.

One of the first perfumes I got last year was Burberry's Brit. It was sort-of-but-not-really a blind buy, because I had only smelled it once about two years ago, and I only vaguely remember liking it. (I bought it together with Lolita Lempicka's signature fragrance, which was a STINKER, I tried wearing it and was almost disgusted, I honestly don't get how some people love it so much!) At first I was actually disappointed in this perfume, but I love it more each day I have it. It smells of tonka bean, lime and almonds, mmmmm. So delicious. Perfect for early spring or fall, in my opinion. Makes me feel so cozy and comfortable :)

In the summer, my favourite perfume was J.Lo's Deseo. Yes, J.Lo. Are you judging? DON'T!! It's absolutely amazing. It literally smells like summer to me. Like walking into an exotic garden where there are fresh clothes drying on the line (that would be weird, but that's the best way to describe it). Kind of soapy and fruity at the same time.

That's it for my 2011 favourites! What are some of your favourite finds in 2011? Please let me know in the comments :)

@ Eloise Ah, as long as you've found a product that works for you, that's great. But do try MAC's sometime in the future, I think they're worth every penny. MAC MSF's are usually limited edition, but Soft and gentle and Gold deposit are both in the regular line, and they're both lovely! <3

  46. @ .sparkle* Jaaaa, tut moj, poleg BB Cream <3 A maš prav to peno? Sej men tut ne naredi trdih las, ampak mi jih tko ukroti, ker mam drugač ful električne, tko da ostanejo na mestu. Sam nimam pa tistega občutka sveže opranih, ful gladkih, mehkih las, to pa je res. :)

@ Vicky No problem, love your blog! Definitely try the BB Cream, it's such a bargain too. Yeees and the MSF - the two together provide the perfect coverage, at least for me. ^^

@ Daisy I know what you mean! :) I used to dread going to bed, because I had to comb through tons of knots each night, now I do it so easily and it doesn't hurt at all (do I sound like a commercial or what, haha).

@ Claire :O That is terrible! Off to the store with you! :D
